As another hard-working employee at the dark chocolate factory, the Welsummer hen excels in egg productivity, often laying speckled dark brown eggs. However, like a lot of chicken breeds, the males, doing very little work, can’t let the girls get all the glory because while the female plumage is mostly battling shades of brown, the male is a handsome devil with chestnut brown hackles and saddle feathers and flamboyant green chest, sickles, and under feathers.
